CARLISLE, Pa. - The Drew University men's golf team smashed the school record for the best 18-hole round and won the Dickinson College Invitational on Monday at Carlisle Barracks Golf Club.
The Rangers fired a 294 - some nine strokes better than the team's previous record set this past spring at the Landmark Conference Championships. A record-breaking effort was necessary for the team title, as Drew edged out Dickinson by two strokes and Gettysburg by six strokes. Hood (303), Juniata (327), Wesley (329), and Stevenson (342) rounded out the field.
The win marked the Rangers' second tournament in program history and the first since the team captured the three-team Goucher Invitational during Drew's inaugural golf season in 2017-18.
All of Drew's top-four finishers all shot 76 or better, including sophomore
Lucas Artigliere, who placed third among 36 golfers. He carded a 1-under 71 - just one stroke shy of his own school record that he shot in his final round last spring to capture the Landmark Conference title.
Finishing just one stroke behind Artigliere was freshman
Jack Strippoli, who notched an even-par 72 in just his third collegiate round while placing fourth. Junior
Brandon Talaska shot a 75 in his Ranger debut to finish in a six-way tie for seventh.
Sophomore
Luis Ng Tang completed the team score with a 76, placing him in a four-way tie for 13th. Senior
Anthony Castronova also competed and shot a 91.
Dickinson's Brandon Wilson shot a 69 to claim medalist honors while Gettysburg's Benjamin Ropiak took second with a 70.
The Rangers pick up their schedule on Saturday and Sunday at the McDaniel College Mason-Dixon Invitational, held at the Bridges Golf Club in Abbottstown, Pa.
