Hanley made her mark as a stellar two-sport athlete, starring for both the women's lacrosse and field hockey teams. As a lacrosse goalie, she backstopped the Rangers to one of the most successful eras in team history, as the squad won four-straight MAC titles and claimed an ECAC crown in 1999. That season, she was honored as the IWLCA Division III Goalie of the Year as well as an IWLCA First-Team All-American. As a sophomore, she broke the NCAA Division III record for save percentage with a mark (.765) that still stood at the time of her Hall of Fame induction, and she also led Division III in goals-against average in back-to-back season in 1997 and 1998. A three-time IWLCA All-Region selection and a three-time All-MAC Freedom Conference honoree, she was Drew's career leader in goals-against average (6.47) and ranked second in school history in both save percentage (.672) and saves (735). She also held single-season school records for both goals-against average (5.41, 1997) and save percentage at the time of her induction.
In field hockey, Hanley enjoyed a tremendous career as an offensive performer. She helped the Rangers to a successful four-year run that included two MAC playoff appearances and three ECAC tournament berths. She was a three-time All-MAC Freedom Conference selection and gained first-team status as a senior, when she piled up a career-high 19 points on six goals and seven assists. She was also a National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Second-Team All-Region selection during her senior campaign.
