Despite playing baseball for only two seasons, Joe Berhman established himself as one of the finest pitchers in Drew history. Playing for legendary coach Dr. Sherman Plato Young, Joe recorded a career mark of 10 wins against three losses with an earned run average of below two.
Joe baffled opponents' hitters, posting "double-digits" in strike-outs seven times in his career. These dominant performances attracted many professional scouts, and in 1938 he became the first Drew player to sign a professional contract when he inked with the St. Louis Browns.
Joe's athletic prowess was not limited to the diamond as he earned two varsity letters in basketball while playing on the first winning teams in school history. Joe was equally impressive in the classroom and was named to the Honor's List and the Dean's List before graduating cum laude.
