Perhaps no individual has left more of a mark on the Drew athletic department in the last 20 years than John Reeves.
As the director of athletics and head men's soccer coach from 1969-81, he introduced several additional sports (women's basketball and men's and women's lacrosse) to the university, while taking his own team to what many term "the next level."
During his career as a head coach at Drew, Reeves guided some of the finest men's soccer teams in the 40-year history of the program. He wasted little time establishing his legacy on the Ranger pitch, guiding his first team in 1969 to the NAIA Final Four, where the squad earned the highest finish in a national tournament ever at Drew, placing third.
When he left after the 1980 season, Reeves was the all-time winningest coach in Drew men's soccer history with a 117-54-19 (.666) record, which included 11 of 12 winning seasons and the school's first- ever NCAA Tournament bid in 1976. When he retired from coaching, he had accumulated a 20-year record of 172-84-28 (.655). At the time of his induction, the teams Reeves coached at Drew still held 12 school records, including most wins (16, 1969), most goals scored (97, 1973), and longest regular-season winning streak (14, 1969-70). He also coached the Rangers' all-time leading scorer, Dean Rosow, who tallied 78 goals and 42 assists in three seasons.
