Llewellyn Watts' accomplishments as an athlete and coach make him an integral part of the history of Drew athletics.
An outstanding pitcher for the Drew Rangers, Watts was undefeated for three seasons (9-0) and helped the 1947 squad post a 12-2 record. He threw a one-hitter against Towson State and has two two-hitters to his credit as well. He continued his career on the mound in professional baseball in which he posted a 16-15 record with 17 saves in three years.
Watts continued his love of baseball after his career as the head coach at Drew in 1955 and 1956, guiding the team to a 17-12 record in two seasons. He also coached baseball and taught mathematics at the Peddie School in Hightstown for over 15 years. His career coaching record after 31 years stands at a remarkable 318-161. During his high school coaching career, he guided four teams to state championships and coached two players who went on to play in the major leagues. The author of two books, several manuals, and 37 articles on baseball and coaching, he has been referred as the finest baseball technician in America by Scholastic Coach Magazine.
In addition to playing baseball at Drew, Watts was a member of the basketball team in 1941-42 and served as the junior varsity coach during the 1946-47 season while still attending Drew.
