The definition of an elite scholar-athlete, Matt Mathias made his mark on the soccer pitch as well as in the classroom at Drew. His standout senior season in 1990 attracted national attention and culminated in a selection to the NSCAA All-America Third Team. He is one of just seven players in the storied history of Drew men's soccer to earn the All-America distinction.
 
That season, Mathias found the back of net five times and added a team-high seven assists for 17 points. His ability to find open teammates and his reliable penchant for possessing the ball in the midfield helped the Rangers to a perfect 6-0 run through the 1990 MAC regular season schedule.
 
While he was busy earning various accolades such as MAC Northern Division All-Star, New Jersey Nine All-Star and a nod to the NSCAA Regional All-America First Team, Mathias also excelled academically. His resume includes a New Jersey Nine Academic Honor Roll, a MAC Academic Honor Roll and a selection to the prestigious ADIDAS Scholar-Athlete Regional All-America Team.
