Whether playing sweeper in field hockey or attack in lacrosse, Sally Gormley Dreyer provided an unwavering core of strength for two Ranger field hockey teams and three lacrosse squads that earned berths in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (N.C.A.A.) Division III tournaments. Her exploits helped Drew attain a Final Four appearance for field hockey in 1985 and for lacrosse in 1988. In the process she became Drew's third student-athlete to gain selection as an All-American in two sports.

During her field hockey career Dreyer spent most of her first three years as the team's final defender before the goalie. She co-captained the team in her senior year, when she also gained All-Middle Atlantic Conference, All-Northeast, and Star-Ledger Athlete-of-the-Week honors. During the team's 1985 N.C.A.A. appearance, she was named to the N.C.A.A. Final Four All-Tournament Team. She led the Rangers to another N.C.A.A. appearance in 1986.

Her lacrosse teammates witnessed nothing less. She received all-conference honors and was selected to two All-America teams: honorable mention on the U.S. Women's Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Team and first team on the Brine All-America Team. At Drew she still ranks fourth in goals in a season (51 in 1988), sixth in career goals (130), third in career assists (38), fifth for points in a career (168), and second in career ground balls (268).
