Tim Shaw followed the example of his brother, Dave (C'93), by coming to Drew. He even wore his brother's basketball jersey number, but his record stands on its own.
After playing basketball at Walkill Valley Regional High School, this Stockholm, New Jersey native plunged into basketball at Drew. He was a three-year starting guard who led the team in scoring in his junior and senior seasons. He holds three spots on Drew's list for most points in a season: fourth (542 in 1996-97), seventh (503, '95-'96), and thirteenth (453, '94-95). He also appears three times on Drew's single season point per game list: sixth (19.4, '96-97), tenth (18.6, '95-96), and thirteenth (18.1, '94-95). He ranks second in free throws made with 359, and his 606 career field goals put him in fourth place in school history. An outstanding outside shooter, he ranks seventh in career three-point field goals with 140. Upon graduation, he ranked in the top 10 in career points (third), assists (sixth) and rebounds (tenth). He finished his career with 1,711 points, still the third highest mark in the history of Drew basketball.
As a senior, Tim led the Rangers to a 19-9 mark, and their first and only East Coast Athletic Conference title at the time. He scored a career-high 41 points in the tournament semifinals and 22 points in the championship game, earning MVP honors. He was named a first team all-conference selection following both his junior and senior seasons. He was also named to the New Jersey College Basketball Coaches Association All-State Team in 1996. Prior to his senior season, Street and Smith named him to the third team pre-season All-American squad. As a senior he was named the NJCBCA Player of the Year in 1997, the Middle Atlantic Conference selected him to their All-Star Team, and he was also a Regional All-American.
Tim was Drew's College Alumni/ae Association Senior Male Athlete of the Year, as his brother David had been four years earlier.
