Timothy Weber Wheaton was destined for athletic success from the day he entered Drew in the fall of 1979. A freshman on the men's sub-varsity soccer squad, he led the scoring with nine goals varsity soccer squad, he led the scoring with nine goals and four assists. In 1980 he joined the varsity team, which won nine games in a row that year; Tim was responsible for five goals and three assists. He was selected a Regional All-American and was named to the New Jersey All-State team. In the 1981 season Tim led the team in overall points with four goals and 12 assists.

He tied the Drew record for most assists, four in one game against King's College. That year Tim was again named All-East, and the team elected him Most Valuable Player. In 1982 the men's it team won its first Eastern College Athletic Conference championship title and finished the season ranked 18th in the nation in Division III - Drew's highest ranking ever. Tim received his third consecutive acceptance to the All-Mideast Regional All-America first team, was named to the N.J. All-Star first team, and received his first appointment to the M.A.C. Northern Division All-Star first team. Tim finished his soccer career at Drew with 17 goals and 21 assists.

Tim made his mark in men's lacrosse as well, earning MVP his sophomore, junior, and senior years and serving as a team captain as a junior and a senior. He left Drew as an all-time leader in goals (74), assists (40), and total points (114). But Tim participated in more than just athletics. He spent a year as the sports editor for the Acorn and served as a resident adviser.
