Improvement in both the team and individual results highlighted the Ranger swim teams trip out to Ursinus on Friday night. The men's team lost by a score of 107-68, but saw Jeroen Fabricant win a pair of races. The women's team fell by a similar, 108-61, tally despite event wins from Selena Davis and Kati Eggert.
Davis and Eggert provided the highlights for the women's team. For the second straight meet, Davis claimed first place in an event as she won the 200 IM. The senior posted a 2:30.14, her best time in the event at Drew. Eggert, just off the field hockey turf, won the 50 Free in 27.70, not a great time for the junior who has posted mid-26s, but a solid starting point for the season.
The women's 200 Medley Relay placed second and showed some promise. Both Lindsay Root and Kati Eggert posted the fastest time of their respective legs of the relay. Root gave the Rangers a 2.30 second lead as the opening swimmer. Eggert's 29.24 third leg regained time lost in the second leg.
Root continued to impress in her collegiate debut meet later in the day. The first-year, also a member of Drew's soccer team, placed second in the 100 Back with a time of 1:07.29, a mark that ranks behind only Selena Davis' from last season's Top 5.
Sophomore Jasmine Prokscha set another personal record in the 1000 Free. After cutting two seconds off her previous best last week, Prokscha shaved another five this week in posting a 12:50.18.
On the men's side, Fabricant was the big story. The sophomore won both of his individual events, the 500 and 1000 Free. Fabricant touched first in the 1000 with a time of 11:23.82, nearly 30 seconds faster than the second place finisher. Later in the day, he posted a 5:33.69 to win the 500 Free.
Two freshmen had solid performances for the Rangers as well. Ulysses Baldwin-Beneich placed second in the 200 IM with a 2:20.43. Walter Bakun swam a powerful 50 Free to take third place in the event with a 24.19, a time good enough to be the Rangers' best last season as well as the early part of this season.
The Rangers are home next Friday to take on Mt. St. Mary's at 6 pm.
