Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. Junior guard Danielle Barber (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Twp.) netted a game-high 22 points to lead the Rangers over St. Joseph's Brooklyn, 84-48, in the consolation game of the 2010 UMass Boston Tip-Off Classic hosted by University of Massachusetts Boston today at the Clark Athletic Center on the UMass Boston campus.

Drew (3-1) canned 14 three-pointers and shot 53.8% from beyond the arc for the game.  The Rangers held the Bears to just 31.1% (19-61) shooting and dominated the boards with a 55-26 advantage, including 19 on the offensive glass.

Drew netted the first nine points of the game and raced out to a 27-5 advantage with 9:55 showing in the first half, fueled by 10 points from Barber.  Sophomore guard Teresa Mangan hit a jumper with 7:04 to go in the opening half for Saint Joseph's to cut the deficit to 30-11, but the Rangers scored the next eight points, capped by a three-pointer from sophomore guard Jennifer Mateo (Union City, N.J./Union City), to give them a 38-12 lead with 5:24 to play in the half.  Drew took a 46-23 lead into the locker room.

St. Joseph's (0-2) would get a lay-up with 15:17 remaining in the contest to pull the Bears to within 16 but it would be as close as they would get the rest of the way.  Drew scored the final five points of the afternoon to cruise to the victory.

Barber was 7-14 from the floor, including 4-10 from three-point range and a perfect 4-4 from the line to go with eight rebounds, three assists and a steal in 27 minutes of action for the Rangers.  Sophomore guard Dana Coronato (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) came off the bench to net 18 points on 7-11 from the field, including 4-7 from downtown, and pulled down six boards, made five steals and handed out two assists in 23 minutes.  Freshman guard Sam Plunkett (Long Island, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) also chipped in with 11 points, a pair of assists, a rebound and a steal in nine minutes off the bench.

Drew will open up conference play after the holiday break on December 4 when they host Merchant Marine at 4:00.
