Drew Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)
What is SAAC?
A student-athlete advisory committee (SAAC) is a committee made up of student-athletes assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience. The SAAC offers input on the rules, regulations and policies that affect student athletes’ lives. There is a SAAC at the institution, conference and national levels.
What is SAAC at Drew?
SAAC gives the student-athletes a voice at Drew and a voice within our conference, the Landmark. In our biweekly meetings, athletes from different teams come together to talk about issues and ideas they have for Drew athletics. Our goal is to create a supportive and inclusive environmental for our 26 teams and 440 student-athletes.
Community Involvement
Starting in 2022-2023, Drew SAAC focused its efforts on supporting the TaubStrong Foundation. Casey Taub, son of Drew alumni Jonathan Taub C'85, was a standout soccer player from Chappaqua, New York. At the age of 14, Casey was diagnosed with having a glioblastoma brain tumor. He endured chemotherapy for two years, all while cheering his team on from the sidelines when he could make it to the games. Casey fought a hard battle and tragically passed away at the age of 16. Since then, Jonathon partnered with the Iron Matt Foundation, then created the TaubStrong Foundation to raise money for those affected by this type of hardship. The Drew Student Athlete Advisory Committee decided that the TaubStrong Foundation offered a perfect opportunity for our community to give back to those affected by all of the obstacles pediatric brain cancer brings upon a family.
