Eagles Pull Away in Second Half
Box Score
MADISON, N.J. (February 4, 2011) – The second-place Juniata Eagles completed the season sweep of the Rangers this afternoon with a 70-45 lopsided win. Drew (8-13, 1-9 Landmark) drops their sixth-straight game as Juniata (15-6, 8-2 Landmark) kept pace in the Landmark Conference playoff hunt.
The Eagles controlled the lead wire-to-wire with the Rangers not coming within a basket for the majority of the contest. After Juniata went on a 13-4 run to begin the game the Rangers made an attempt to get back in it with a run of their own.
Back-to-back three pointers by
#Dana Coronato# (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) and
Victoria Ault (Middletown, N.J./Mater Dei) pulled the Rangers within six at the 12:45 mark. A steal by
Danielle Baber (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Twp.) and fast break layup by Coronato cut Juniata's lead to four.
The mini-run by the Rangers would be the closest they'd come as Juniata scored the next 10 points and went into the half with a 12 point lead. The Eagles Jen Hnatuck, had 10 first-half points to lead all scorers going into the locker room while Ault had a team-high nine for Drew.
Juniata would not let go of the double-digit lead in the second half and pulled away thanks in part to 12 second-half points by Erin McGinley.
Coronato and Ault both finished with 13 points, leading the Rangers.
Jess Reid (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) pulled down a team-high five rebounds in the loss.
The Rangers are back in action tomorrow as Susquehanna comes to Madison at 2:00 PM. Drew will honor senior
Jess Reid before the game as part of their senior day celebration.
