First Half Brewer Run Buries Rangers

Box Score MADISON, N.J. (December 3, 2012) – The Vassar College Brewers (5-0) defeated the Drew women's basketball team (2-5) this evening, 64-47 in Baldwin Gym.

Freshman Courtney Stephens (Pikesville, Md. /Gerstell Academy) recorded her third double-double in four games, scoring 11 points and pulling down 10 rebounds in the loss. Stephens was 4-of-10 from the field and recorded a game-high five offensive rebounds.

For the Brewers, Cyndi Matsuoka was nearly lights out, making her first five shots from the floor and netted a game-high 19 points. Hannah Senftleber tallied 10 rebounds including four on the offensive end and added six points to lead Vassar.

After opening up a 10-point lead with 12:49 remaining in the first half, the Brewers put together an 11-0 run over a five minute span to take a commanding, 30-11 lead with 3:57 remaining in the frame. Vassar held a 35-20 lead into the halftime break.

The fast-paced Brewers did not trail the entire contest and did not let their second half lead slip below 14 points. The two teams combined for 43 turnovers, with the Rangers committing 23 of them. Vassar held a 44-34 edge on rebounds with 17 of them coming on the offensive side of the ball.

The Rangers will now prepare for cross-street rival FDU on Wednesday. The women kick-off a doubleheader beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the Ferguson Recreation Center. The FDU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be accepting non-perishable food donations and anyone who brings an item to donate will be admitted to the game for free.
