MADISON, N.J. (February 18, 2012) – Four of the five Rangers starters were in double figures in a 74-61 victory over Merchant Marine (10-15, 4-10 Landmark) on Senior Day. Drew improves to 9-16 on the year and 5-9 in Landmark Conference play.
The senior laden Ranger squad was led once again by
Danielle Barber (Cape May Court House, N.J/Middle Twp.) who finished with a team-high 21 points. She recorded her second double-double in the last three games after dishing out a total of 11 assists.
Fellow senior
Victoria Ault (Middletown, N.J./Mater Dei) put together another fantastic performance, concluding her career with a 17-point, 13-rebound effort.
Katherine Luby (Old Saybrook, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) nailed three 3-pointers en route to 13 points and pulled down eight boards in her final game as a Ranger.
The Rangers used a 14-0 run beginning at the six minute mark of the second half, to close out Merchant Marine and took sole possession of fifth place in the Landmark Conference. Merchant Marine offense relied on the hot shooting of Demi Vanderwal who finished with a game-high 29 points. She scored 20 points in the first half alone, knocking down five 3-pointers.
Sophomore
Logan Cavanaugh (Rutland, Vt./Burr & Burton Academy) rounded off the Ranger scoring going 5-of-7 from the field, totaling 12 points. The Rangers held a 46-37 rebounding edge on the Rangers and forced 15 Mariner turnovers.
Danielle Barber finishes her career with 1,366 points, good for fourth all-time in Drew history. Her 11 assists today put her four shy of the school career record of 467 held by Robin Savar C'83.
The victory over the Mariners completes the season sweep and is the sixth straight victory over their travel partners.
