Eagles Hand Rangers Third Conference Loss

Box Score MADISON, N.J. (January 12, 2013) – The Drew women's basketball team suffered its third conference loss of the season in a 73-53 defeat at the hands of Juniata (11-4, 2-2 Landmark) this afternoon in Baldwin Gym. The Rangers are now 5-10 overall and 1-3 in the Landmark.

Freshman Courtney Stephens (Pikesville, Md./Gerstell Academy) eclipsed a season-high, leading all scorers with 22 points. Coming into the game as the team's leader in rebounds, Stephens pulled down a team-high seven in today's contest.

Four of the five starters for the Eagles were in double figures as they shot 39 percent from the field as a team. Natalie Glinsky, Jordan Hileman, Kelsey Livoti and Kate McDonald each had 10 points. McDonald, who came into the game averaging 13.5 points per game, fell a rebound shy of a double-double and tallied two blocks.

The Rangers struggled offensively from the field over the first 20 minutes and the Eagles took advantage. Juniata ran out to a 9-0 lead to begin the game and opened up a 22-7 lead with 9:04 remaining in the first frame. Drew scored the last seven points of the half to make the score 31-20 at the half.

The Eagles did not make it easier for the Rangers in the second half as they shot nearly 50 percent from the field over the final 20 minutes. Juniata scored the nine of the first 13 points of the second half and did not look back.

Juniata held a 51-36 rebounding edge on the Rangers and committed four less turnovers to lock up their 11th win of the season. Senior Jennifer Mateo (Union City, N.J./Union City) had nine points, six rebounds and five assists to pace the Drew offense. She is now two assists shy of eighth place all-time on the school's career assists list.

The Rangers will continue Landmark Conference play on Wednesday when they host Scranton in Baldwin Gym. Tip is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
