Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y. (November 23, 2013) – The Drew University women's basketball team improved to 4-0 on the season after a 77-65 win over Manhattanville (0-4) this evening. With less than five minutes to play, the Rangers rattled off a 9-0 run to close out the Valiants.
Sophomore
Erin Howard (Tolland, Conn./East Catholic) led all scorers with 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Freshman
Hannah Miller (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) scored 15 points and was in double figures for her fourth-straight game. Sophomore
Courtney Stephens (Pikesville, Md./Gerstell Academy) added 14 points and eight rebounds to pace the Rangers offense.
Two free throws by Miller capped the Rangers 9-0 run with 1:27 remaining in the game. Four different scorers powered the Rangers on their 9-0 run beginning at the 3:46 mark. Neither team shot particularly well from the floor but Drew won the free throw battle. The Rangers sunk a total of 25 free throws, going 25-for-38 from the charity stripe.
Manhattanville took a 36-35 lead into the halftime break and were led by Alyson Caiazzo who had 17 points and 14 rebounds. The Rangers fought off an eight-point deficit with 11:30 remaining in the first half. It marked the second time this season the Rangers were able to win after trailing at the half.
The Rangers home opener will be on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. to host King's (Pa.). The women will be the first half of doubleheader on Tuesday evening.
