Box Score MADISON, N.J. (February 9, 2013) – The Drew women's basketball team emerged victorious on Senior Day in Baldwin Gym, with a 67-49 victory over Goucher College (6-16, 2-10 Landmark) this afternoon. The Rangers win their ninth game of the season, improving to 9-14 overall and 5-7 in the Landmark Conference.
Playing in her final Landmark Saturday game, senior
Whitney Mackay (Suffield, Conn./Berkshire School) led the Rangers with 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting. She nailed a pair three-pointers moving her into a tie for 11
th place all-time on the school's three-point field goals made list with 67. Freshman
Courtney Stephens (Pikesville, Md./Gerstell Academy) also had 12 points and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
For the Gophers, Ebonie Diggs poured in a game-high 17 points off the bench and was 7-for-13 from the field. Amaka Ezeani also came off the bench and was the only other Goucher player in double figures, scoring 11 points. She missed only one shot from the floor and was 3-for-3 from the charity stripe.
Goucher's only lead of the contest came on the game's opening basket by Olivia Nono. After the initial Gopher basket, the Rangers went on a 23-5 run over a 7:36 stretch and did not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the game. Drew took a commanding 44-25 lead into halftime after shooting a blistering 57 percent from the field over the first 20 minutes.
The Gophers came out of the break and ripped off a 14-5 run over the first nine minutes of play. The Drew defense took over after the Goucher run, allowing only 12 points in the last 9:10. The Rangers scored 23 points off 24 Gopher turnovers for the game.
Freshman
Erin Howard was the only other Ranger in double figures, netting 10 points and recording five blocks. She now is ranked ninth all-time with 53 blocks in her just first season in Madison.
Seniors
Jennifer Mateo (Union City, N.J./Union City),
Becky Smith (Haverhill, Mass./Presentation of Mary Academy), Jeramie Barletta (Madison, N.J./Madison) and Mackay were all honored prior today's contest.
The Rangers will close out their home schedule on Wednesday when they take on Merchant Marine at 7:00 p.m. in Baldwin Gym.
