Wilson Ties Career-High in Loss to Scranton

Box Score Scranton, Pa. (January 22, 2014) – The Drew University women's basketball team (9-7, 2-3) ran into a streaking Scranton Royals team, winners of 12 straight games, this evening suffering a, 90-70 defeat. At 2-3 the Rangers sit in fourth place in the Landmark Conference.

Drew was led by Junior guard Breana Wilson (Irvington, N.J./Berkshire School) who tied a career-high with 20 points. Wilson added nine assists for the Rangers in her 39 minutes of play. Rangers sophomore Courtney Stephens (Pikesville, Md./Gerstell Academy) scored 19 points and grabbed 8 rebounds for Drew in the loss.

Scranton bigs Meredith Mesaris and Alexix Roman combined for 49 points in the victory including 18 of the first 30 royal points. With 10 minutes left to play in the first half Scranton led 18-10, before outscoring the Rangers 30-24 to take a 48-34 lead into the half.

The royals kept the pressure on in the second half not letting the Rangers get any closer than 12 points. The teams traded baskets in the second half with Stephens and Wilson combining for 22 of the Rangers 36 second half points.

Senior guard Lexie Forsell (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro) matched a career-high scoring eight points in 27 minutes off the bench for the Rangers. Forsell also dished out three assists and grabbed three rebounds. Sophomore center Erin Howard (Tolland, Conn./East Catholic) scored 12 points in 25 minutes of play off the bench for the Rangers. Howard grabbed four rebounds and recorded six blocks in the loss. With her six blocks in the game Howard moved into third all-time on Drew's Blocked Shots list.

The Rangers continue conference play on Saturday January 25 in the second game of a Men's and Women's double header at 4:00 p.m. in Baldwin Gym against Goucher College.
