Sheetz Scores 3 in Senior Day Win Over Moravian

MADISON, N.J. (Oct. 31, 2015) – The Drew University field hockey team (4-13, 1-6) honored the four members of the Class of 2016 in style behind a 4-1 victory over the Moravian College Greyhounds (4-14, 0-7) on Saturday afternoon in Ranger Stadium. Sophomore Madi Sheetz recorded a hat trick in the victory.

Seniors Kirby Clark, Larkin Dolan, Michelle Fallon and Taryn Murphy end their careers in Blue and Green with an overall record of 36-32. The four graduating members of the class of 2016 have reached the Landmark Conference playoffs twice and have reached the pinnacle of conference play in 2012 as they participated in a Landmark Conference Championship game.

Since the Landmark's inception in 2007 the Rangers and Greyhounds have now clashed nine times with Drew pulling away victorious eight times, including today's win. Sophomore Madi Sheetz and Fallon have enjoyed success against Moravian as Sheetz has tallied four goals in two games faced against the Greyhounds, while Fallon has added two goals and three assists in her two games against Moravian.

The Rangers wasted little time jumping out to an early lead in just the fourth minute of action. Sheetz scored her first of three goals on the day off an assist from Fallon. Fallon was awarded the ball in the midfield on a foul and fired a long ball up the center of the field to an open Sheetz in front of the goal. Drew would add another goal before the end of the half when Huma Sheikh played a ball forward Sheetz creating a one-on-one situation with the goalie. Sheetz then dribble around the keeper to finish in a wide-open goal. Drew took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

The Drew offense was untouchable this afternoon scoring four goals on 16 shots while putting 11 of those shots on goal. The Rangers also tallied 10 penalty corners on the day, the second highest total of the season. The Drew defense held strong for the second straight game, holding the opposition to just 10 shots and six corners, both the second lowest totals of the year.

Moravian would tally their first and only goal on the contest in the game's 51st minute to pull within one of the Rangers making the score, 2-1.

Drew would respond just 10 minutes later as a Moravian foul awarded the Rangers a penalty corner. Sheetz played a ball into Fallon who dribble across the right-side of the defense and played a ball to the back left post to a wide-open Sheetz. Fallon tacked on an insurance goal in the 67th minute, picking up a loose ball in the circle and firing the ball passed the keeper into the lower left corner of the goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Ryann Callaghan made her 17th career start in net for the Rangers on the afternoon. Callaghan faced seven shots making six saves bringing her season total to 179.

Drew closes the 2015 season on a two-game winning streak and winning three of its final four contests. Every member of the 2015 team saw action in at least one game this season. The team tallied 31 goals on 15 assists on the year good for 77 total points. Seven different Rangers tallied at least one point, with five different goal scorers on the year. The season also culminated with the breaking of a few records. Fallon set a new school record for points in a game with 14, goals in a game with 5 and assists in a game with 4. Callaghan's 179 saves on the year ranks her 8th on Drew's All-Time Saves in a Season list and is the most by a freshman goalkeeper in school history. Sophomore defender Michele Pozyc tallied 17 defensive saves on the year, tying her own school and Landmark Conference record. Pozyc's 17 defensive saves brings her career total to 34, ranking her 1st in Drew's record books and second in active leaders in the NCAA Division III.
