Stephens Scores Career-High 27 in Loss at E-Town

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. (Feb. 18, 2015) – The 2014-15 season came to a close for the Drew University women's basketball team on Wednesday evening after a 65-51 loss at Elizabethtown College.

In her final game before taking over as the Rangers' lone senior next season, junior forward Courtney Stephens netted a career-high 27 points of 12-of-20 shooting, while stuffing the stat sheet with three rebounds, three assists, one block, and one steal, while playing all 40 minutes. Senior guard Breana Wilson wrapped up her Drew career with eight points and tying a career high with five steals.

The Blue Jays (17-6, 10-5) avenged a loss to Drew (12-13, 6-10) earlier this season in Madison by winning the battle of the boards, 44-28 and holding the Rangers to a 36-percent shooting mark. Elizabethtown's Emily Martin finished with a rare 20-20 game with 23 points and 25 rebounds.

Elizabethtown used an 11-0 run to take a 17-4 lead early in the contest. Stephens helped the fight back with four straight layups for the Rangers as the Blue Jays struggled to find an answer to defend the tough forward. Another 11-0 run by Elizabethtown game the home squad a 34-17 lead with 3:28 to play in the first half. Stephens netted 14 points in the opening half, but the Rangers went to the locker room trailing the Blue Jays, 43-27.

Stephens would continue to chip away at the Blue Jays' defense with dominating play in the paint. However, Elizabethtown posted consistent offense and maintained its double-digit lead into the final stretch. Stephens passed her previous career-high of 22 points, obtained twice in her career, with a layup with 5:19 remaining on the clock.

The Rangers finish the season with 63.7 points per game, the seventh best mark in program history. Their 147 three-pointers were the third most in school history, while the 328 free throws made tie for seventh in the record books for a single season.
