Rangers Net Four Hat-Tricks in Victorious Opener

MADISON, N.J. (March 19, 2015) – The Drew University women's lacrosse team rode four hat-tricks to a successful home opener on Thursday night and defeated the SUNY College at Old Westbury by a score of 18-5.

There was plenty of scoring in this one and leading the way were the co-captains. Senior attacker Nikki Kleiman and senior midfielder Krysta Cento combined for 11 of Drew's 18 points. The forwards wove through Old Westbury's defense and unleashed powerful, accurate shots, eight of which came from Kleiman. Kleiman's four-goal performance pushed her up to third all-time for goals scored on the Drew record book with 209.

Sophomore goalkeeper Gianna Minogue notched seven first half saves en route to her third victory of the year. Thursday's performance brought her season save total to 31.

Sophomore attacker Anna Fiorini and freshman attacker Sage Johnson both registered hat tricks with their performances. For Fiorini, Thursday was her highest goal scoring output since she dropped five on this very same Old Westbury team on March 8, 2014. For Johnson, her three were good for a personal best.

Sophomore midfielder Morgan Mason scored Drew's first two goals of the game, both free position tries. Sophomore defender Kelly Dwyer tied her career-high with two goals, both of which came unassisted and in the first half. Freshman midfielder Nicole Kinney took one shot on the night but made it count, logging a goal in the 15th minute of regulation. Defensive captain Sam DeSimone gathered a team-high four ground balls.

Drew's triumph featured pivotal, aggressive defense and resilient ball control. The Rangers were successful on 17 clears on 19 opportunities, 12 of which came in the first half.

Drew took an emphatic 11-3 lead in the first half and continued their ardent pace throughout the contest.

After a successful home opener and with a perfect record, the Rangers will travel to Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania to kick off Landmark Conference play with Susquehanna University on Saturday, March 21 at 1:00 p.m.
