JERSEY CITY, N.J. (April 1, 2015) – In their final road game for two weeks, the Drew University baseball team dropped a non-conference contest to New Jersey City University by a score of 14-6
Sophomore designated hitter
Mike Miraglia with a 5
th inning single through the left side has now hit in seven of his last eight games and leads the team with a .457 slugging percentage. Junior second baseman
Anthony Feltre went 2-for-4 with an RBI and has now hit in six straight contests. Freshman outfielder
Troy Naiden smacked his first career hit with a single back up the middle in the 8
th.
Drew's first two runs came after senior catcher
Robert Auletti and sophomore right fielder
Richie Poland smacked singles and were sacrificed into scoring position on a bunt from senior shortstop
Steve Kowalski. The two trotted home after the seed of freshman center fielder
Ryan Sabbag forced an errant throw from the Gothic Knights' third baseman. The play tied the score 2-2 after the third.
In the following inning, freshman third baseman
Isaiah Mateo drove in his sixth run as a Ranger with an RBI single through the left side. The Gothic Knight reliever then stymied Drew's rally by robbing Auletti by snagging a hot comeback and nabbing a base runner at second who was caught off guard.
New Jersey City University proceeded to tack on runs in swaths, quickly putting the contest out of reach.
The setback was Drew's last road game in a while as their schedule features eight straight games at Doc Young. The home stand begins with a three-game Landmark Conference series with Moravian College starting on Thursday, April 2
nd at 4:00 p.m.
