GLASSBORO, N.J. (April 23, 2015) – The Drew University women's lacrosse team suffered a non-conference loss at the hands of Rowan University 19-10 on the road.
Despite the loss, the Rangers still managed to score double digits, a feat they've accomplished in every contest this season and their last 31 games dating back to February 27
th, 2014.
Half of the night's goals were senior midfielder
Krysta Cento's responsibility. Cento's 5-goal, 11 shot evening pulls together what has been quite a two-week period for the senior, who participated in her last non-conference regular season game. Cento has scored 18 goals in her last four games, good for four and a half goals per game.
Reigning Landmark Conference Offensive Athlete of the Week, senior attacker
Nikki Kleiman, sophomore attacker
Anna Fiorini and reigning ECAC Rookie of the Week
Maddie Spiess each turned in two-point efforts in the setback.
Freshman midfielder
Nicole Kinney, in addition to notching her seventh goal of the season, scooped up a team-high four ground balls.
Sophomore attacker
Theresa Shafron made the most of the first of only two free position shots for the Rangers to open the scoring. Shafron ripped home her ninth of the year to tie up the score at 1-1 two minutes into the game. Rowan would convert six such opportunities by the end of the contest with Drew settling for just the one.
With under seven minutes to play sophomore midfielder
Morgan Mason fought for a Fiorini drive that flew high and netted a score of her own in close. Mason has now scored in every contest this season and boasts a 16-game goal streak.
The Rangers and Profs exchanged blows for the majority of the first half, trading goals until the halftime whistle. Kleiman and Cento teamed up for their obligatory goal to draw the score to 8-7 by the time the half ended.
The Profs unloaded in the second half, opening with a six-goal flurry that lit the scoreboard to the tune of 13-7 with nearly half of the time elapsed.
Drew finally answered when Cento scored after winning a draw control but the goal would be one of just four second-half goals for the Rangers. Rowan netted three times as many in the period and the contest wound to a close.
The Rangers will look to put this loss behind them as they gear up for a Landmark Conference battle with Goucher College with serious playoff implications. The Rangers currently sit in third place with a 3-2 conference record, and can lock up a playoff berth with a victory. The Rangers can also be eliminated from contention with a loss. The game with the Gophers is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. start in Towson, Md. on April 25
