MADISON, N.J. (April 28, 2015) – In the final start of her career, senior starting pitcher
Laura D'Ornellas tossed a no-hitter in Game 1 of a doubleheader sweep of Yeshiva University, 15-0 and 13-2 in two five-inning contests.
Â
D'Ornellas' no-hitter was the fifth such performance in program history and the senior struck out seven batters while walking just one in her final career start. She also stole a base in the third inning, earning a perfect 13-for-13 stolen base rate for her career.
Â
In Game 1, freshman left fielder
Brooke Adams scored 4 runs in and freshman centerfielder
Heather Ronchi drove in 4. In Game 2, sophomore shortstop
Meghan McGuire, freshman third baseman
Lauren Mastropierro and D'Ornellas drove in three runs each. D'Ornellas scored four runs combined in both games.
Â
Every Ranger had at least one hit in either of the two games.
Â
The Rangers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in Game 1's first inning after Adams singled and scored on a sacrifice fly from senior catcher
Kate McNamara.
Â
Ronchi pushed her team-high batting average past .360 when she laced a double past the second base bag, driving in two. The knock extended the Rangers' lead to 4-0 after two innings.
Â
An 8-run third inning solidified the Ranger victory. Sophomore first baseman
Emma Agostini drilled two singles in the inning, driving in two runs.
Â
As if twirling a no-no in Game 1 wasn't enough, D'Ornellas kicked off Game 2's scoring with a 2-run double.
Â
Mastropierro would single up the middle, driving in two more before the first inning concluded. The second inning began with another run-scoring knock from D'Ornellas. McGuire followed with a single up the middle to plate two more runs. By the end of the second Drew led 9-0.
Â
Three straight singles from McGuire, freshman second baseman
Danielle Martinez, and Mastropierro in the fourth brought the Ranger lead to 13-2.
Â
Agostini went three scoreless innings before D'Ornellas took over in the fourth.
