See-Saw 2OT Thriller Tips in Favor of Wittenberg

MADISON, N.J. (Nov. 20, 2016) – Wittenberg University outlasted the Drew University women's basketball team in the Rose City Classic consolation game on Sunday afternoon in a double-overtime contest with 15 lead changes from the fourth quarter on, ending in a 76-71 setback for the Rangers in Baldwin Gymnasium.

By the Numbers: Drew falls to 1-2 on the season, while the Tigers (1-2) win their first game of the year. It was the Rangers' first double-overtime game since January 16 of last season. There were a total of 17 lead changes in an intensely close battle with 12 different tied scores.

Top Performers: Senior guard Hannah Miller was named to the Rose City Classic All-Tournament Team for the second straight year after capping her weekend with 29 points on 12-of-30 shooting with four 3-pointers, three rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block. She led all players on Sunday with 46 minutes played. She joined three other Rangers in double-digits, including senior forward Sam Lane, who notched her first double-double as a Ranger with 12 points and 11 boards. Senior guard Courtney Trzasko hit 4-of-7 from beyond the arc for her 12 points, and junior point guard Michaela Keegan added 10 points, six assists, and only turned the ball over once in 40 minutes of court time.

Turning Point: There were many, but Wittenberg's final push to the top came when they were fouled shooting a three-point field goal with 39 seconds left and the score tied 71-71. Alex Kiess nailed all three freebies, and following a Drew missed three and a foul, the Tigers made two more free throws with 24 seconds left to set the final score at 76-71.

Other Highlights: In the final minute of regulation, a Lane layup had Drew up 52-51, but Wittenberg drew a foul on the other end and tied it up with 1-of-2 from the line with nine seconds left. Drew had the last chance at the game-winner, but it came up just short and the game headed to its first overtime.

The Rangers took a pair of four-point leads in overtime No. 1 on three-pointers by Trzasko and Miller. However, the Tigers came roaring back once again with a pair of made free throws and a second-chance put back to tie it at 61-61 with 23 seconds left. Wittenberg missed the and-one free throw on the play, again giving Drew a chance to win it with the final shot, but they could not get the shot off as time expired.

Stat Sheet: For the second straight night, Drew's opposition dominated the boards with Wittenberg holding a 65-38 advantage in rebounds. The Rangers however took care of the ball while forcing turnovers on the other end, committing just 13 turnovers in a double-overtime game and swiping 10 steals. The Tigers' 23 offensive rebounds led to 21 second chance points compared to Drew's six.

Up Next: The Rangers return home after Thanksgiving break for a non-conference game against Wesleyan University on Sunday, Nov. 27 at 2:00 p.m.
