Women's Basketball Falls to Rutgers-Newark

MADISON, N.J. (Dec. 17, 2016) - The Drew University women's basketball team lost a battle to Rutgers-Newark, 62-40, in Baldwin Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
 
By The Numbers: Drew drops to 3-7 overall and 2-4 at home in Baldwin. Rutgers-Newark improves to 4-7 on the year and has now put together a three-game winning streak.
 
Top Performers: Junior forward Ally Raulf contributed nine points and nine rebounds on the day, while giving Drew an inside presence. Senior forward Sam Lane and senior guard Courtney Trzasko also added nine points apiece, with junior guard Michaela Keegan collecting five points and five assists.
 
Turning Point: Rutgers-Newark came out of warmups with intense energy, jumping out to a double-digit lead within the first five minutes of play. A successful full-court press created multiple Drew turnovers, which led to easy baskets for the Scarlet Raiders. The Raiders rebounded well and shot lights-out from beyond the arc in the first half to quickly pull away from the Rangers. The lead was 37-20 at intermission.
 
Highlights
• Rutgers-Newark started the game on a 14-0 run until a Drew three-point field goal by Trzasko brought the game to 12-3 with 3:18 to play in the first.
• The Scarlet Raiders used crisp perimeter passing to create a wide open jump-shot from the corner as the final seconds of the half ticked down, giving the visitors a 37-20 lead at the break.
• Freshman guard Aly Axman scored her first collegiate bucket in the third quarter.
