Mason Career-High Sparks Record Book 20-6 Win

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (March 19, 2016) -- Led by a career-high matching five goals from junior midfielder Morgan Mason, the Drew University women's lacrosse team dropped 20 goals on the College of Old Westbury, who registered only six on Saturday afternoon.

With 20 goals, the Rangers posted the fifth-highest single-game goal total in history. They ended with 20 once before, against Goucher College on April 19, 2014.

Mason netted five goals in a game only once before in her career, against the Catholic University of America on April 26, 2014. She also assisted on three goals. Mason is second on the Rangers (2-4) in goals with 14. Drew's top goal scorer, sophomore midfielder Maddie Spiess, added a hat trick to the victory. The assist leader on the day was sophomore attacker Juliana Strazulo, who registered four. She leads the team with six.

Five Rangers, junior attacker Theresa Shafron, sophomore attacker Sage Johnson, sophomore defender Nicole Kinney, junior attacker Kelly Dwyer, and freshman midfielder Mia Campanale scored twice in the win. Also adding goals were Strazulo and sophomore attacker Sarah Anderson, with her first of the year.

Old Westbury (1-2) actually scored the first goal of the day before Mason sparked a seven-goal run for the Rangers. Mason got her hat trick with the first three Drew goals of the day, each one a minute after the other. They ended the half with 12.

Drew added eight goals in the second half with Anderson's goal rounding out the 20 goal effort with three minutes to go.

Next up is the Battle of Madison Avenue. Drew heads down the road to FDU-Florham to take on the Devils on Monday, March 21st at 7:00 p.m.
