MAHWAN, N.J. (March 22, 2016) -- The Drew University baseball team traveled and fell to No. 4 Ramapo College, 8-1, as Ramapo kept its undefeated record intact in non-conference play on Tuesday afternoon.
Â
Freshman left fielder
Jayson Mitch went 2-for-4 in the setback. Mitch is now batting .320 on the year for the Rangers (6-9). Freshman designated hitter
Zach Lipshitz also went 2-for-4.
Â
Impressed by what they saw in his first outing, Head Coach
Brian Hirschberg sent out freshman righty
Zach Luke for his second straight non-conference start. The freshman prospect is acclimating himself with the collegiate level. Luke matched zeroes with the starting pitcher opposite him until the third when Ramapo (13-0) started the scoring. A rally packed with singles and walks led to a 3-spot for the Roadrunners before Luke induced a 1-6-3 double play to stop the bleeding. Luke recovered after a rocky third to pitch a clean fourth.
Â
After sophomore second baseman
Anthony Feltre singled to start the sixth, junior right fielder
Tommy Broyles scored him on a sacrifice fly. The RBI was Broyles' ninth on the year, ranking him second among the Rangers.
Â
Drew managed five hits on the day and held Ramapo without an extra base hit.
Â
Drew's next game comes on from Doc Young Field on Thursday, Mar. 24 at 3:30 p.m. as the Rangers face New Jersey City University.
