Edged in Game 2, Drew Concedes Double Dip to WPU

MADISON, N.J. (March 31, 2016) -- The Drew University softball team (6-12) fell to William Paterson University (14-2) in both halves of a home doubleheader on Thursday afternoon, 6-0 and 3-2.

Top Performers: Junior right fielder Phylicia Pellot reached base four times in Game 2, going 3-for-3. Pellot, with a single in Game 1, was one of three Rangers with multiple hits on the day. Sophomore Heather Ronchi, who caught Game 1 and played center field in Game 2, singled twice in Game 2 and once in Game 1. Junior second baseman Danielle Martinez also singled in each game, as well as scoring Drew's second run of Game 2.

Turning Point: Pellot knocked home Drew's first two runs of Game 2 when she worked a long at-bat that ended with her smacking a 2-run single right back up the middle. The single brought the score to 3-2 Pioneers.

Other Highlights: In Game 2, freshman designated player Katie Grodski picked up a hit and scored Drew's first run of the game. Also singling were sophomore left fielder Lauren Mastropierro, freshman third baseman Sammie Booth and junior first baseman Emma Agostini. Agostini came on to pitch five innings of relief in the second game, tossing five innings of two-run ball. Ronchi ripped a single up the middle in the 7th inning of Game 2 in an attempt to spark a rally, but was stranded to end the game.

Up Next: The Rangers return to Landmark Conference action on Saturday, April 2nd when they host Juniata College, who is also searching for its first conference win. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
