BETHLEHEM, Pa. (April 10, 2016) – Senior first baseman
Bobby Miskura recorded his 100
th career hit for the Drew University baseball team during a 4-for-5 day, including the game-winning RBI to give the Rangers (13-13, 6-5) a 9-8 win in Game 1 of a Landmark Conference doubleheader split at Moravian College on Sunday. Moravian bounced back for an 11-2 victory in the nightcap.
Â
Top Performers: Heading into the day with 98 hits, Miskura celebrated a major career milestone in style by getting two hits during the Rangers' seven-run first inning in the first game of the doubleheader. By game's end, he had driven in three runs in three separate at-bats, including a game-tying RBI in the fifth and the eventual game-winner in the seventh. Freshman left-hander
Joshua Williams picked up the win on the mound by tossing 2.2 innings of scoreless relief after the Greyhounds (13-12, 7-4) mounted a comeback. Williams allowed two hits, no walks and struck out one.
Â
The Turning Point: Drew jumped on a Moravian starting pitcher that entered the game with an ERA under 1.00 by bringing 12 men to the plate. Seven hits, three Moravian errors and five different Rangers driving in runs resulted in an early 7-0 lead. However, after a gradual comeback by the home team, Drew relied on the clutch bat of the senior captain with the Greyhounds leading 8-7.
Â
Miskura delivered a two-out single to tie the game in the fifth. In the seventh, senior second baseman
Anthony Feltre singled to advance pinch-hitter
Dan Pfefferkorn to second, bringing up Miskura in another high-pressure situation with one out. Unfazed, Miskura roped his fourth hit of the game back up the middle to score Feltre for the 9-8 lead.
Â
Other Highlights: Sophomore reliever
Joe Dahut was called on to close the door in the bottom of the seventh, and picked up his first save of the year after working around a one-out hit. Feltre, juniors
Mike Miraglia and
Tommy Broyles and freshman
Jayson Mitch all had two hits in the victory, while freshman shortstop
Zach Lipshitz drove in two runs in the first off a hard liner that ricocheted off the third baseman's glove allowing two runs to score.
Â
Game 2: Mitch notched another two hits and stole a base, while Broyles and junior third baseman
Jonathan Rodrigues drove in Drew's only two runs of the game as Moravian bounced back to salvage the second game of the double dip.
Â
Up Next: The Rangers remain in Bethlehem to finish the Landmark Conference series at Moravian on Monday, April 11. The nine-inning game is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Gillespie Field.
