JERSEY CITY, N.J. (April 21, 2016) – Following a 10-2 win in Game 1, the Drew University softball team (11-17) came from behind for a 4-1 victory in Game 2 at New Jersey City University (11-21) on Thursday to run a winning streak to four games.

Meghan McGuire has now hit in five straight games with a 5-for-9 performance on Thursday with one run and three RBIs, while sophomore third baseman
Lauren Mastropierro went 4-for-9 with a run scored throughout the doubleheader. Sophomore center fielder
Heather Ronchi extended her hitting streak to six games and picked up three RBIs to increase her season total to 18 in the 10-2 Game 1 victory.

Starting pitchers
Bethany Budner and
Emma Agostini each went the distance in their respective games and earned wins in the circle. Budner won her ninth game of the season by scattering seven hits and a walk over seven innings while striking out two in Game 1, and Agostini turned in a quality start with seven innings of one-run ball, five hits, no walks and two strikeouts in the second contest.

Turning Point: Ronchi launched the Rangers' attack in the opener with a two-run single in the top of first inning. McGuire and freshman first baseman
Cara O'Leary each posted RBI singles in the second and third innings, respectively, for the early 4-1 lead before Drew's 13-hit attack took control of the game later in the afternoon.

Trailing 1-0 in the fourth inning of Game 2, Drew worked three walks to load the bases before benefitting from a Gothic Knight error to score two runs. The Rangers added a third run on a wild pitch to take a 3-1 lead before McGuire added an RBI single in the sixth for the 4-1 lead, the eventual final score.

Other Highlights: O'Leary was 2-for-2 with a walk and three runs in Game 1, including the first double of her collegiate career in the fifth inning. Sophomore left fielder
Brooke Adams hit 3-for-6 with three runs scored and joined McGuire, Ronchi, Mastropierro and junior leadoff hitter
Phylicia Pellot as the five Rangers to hit in both ends of the double dip.
