MADISON, NJ (April 24, 2016) - Despite blasting two homers, the Drew University baseball team fell to Elizabethtown College, 6-5, in the conclusion of the teams' Landmark Conference three-game series on Sunday afternoon at Doc Young Field.
Â
Playoff Picture: The lineup for the 2016 Landmark Conference championship tournament will all come down to the final weekend. The Rangers (8-10) have three games withThe University of Scranton (9-9) at home left on the schedule. A sweep of the Royals will guarantee the Rangers the No. 4 seed, and can earn a No. 3 seed if Moravian College (11-7) loses three against The United States Merchant Marine Academy (6-12).
Â
Drew can get in winning 2-of-3 from Scranton, but only if The Catholic University of America (7-11) does not sweep Juniata College (4-14). Drew winning 2-of-3 against Scranton, and a Catholic sweep would put all three teams at 10-11, and Catholic would get in with the best season record (4-2) out of that threesome.
Â
Top Performers: Senior second baseman
Anthony Feltre went 2-for-5 with a leadoff homer and two RBIs. In the at-bat following his second career home run, Feltre made a bid for another one but it was caught at the track in left field. Junior outfielder
Marc Cohen went yard as well, the first home run of his career. Junior starting pitcher
Ryan Fitzpatrick went five innings, striking out eight, while junior
Tommy Broyles pitched in relief, going four and striking out six while allowing just one earned run.
Â
Turning Points: Trailing 1-0 in the bottom half of the first inning, the Rangers' offensive effort was spring boarded by a leadoff homer from Feltre. His only other dinger came on March 11
th, 2015 against Occidental College in California. But the Rangers blasted two homers on the day, the second came from Cohen. With two down in the bottom of the eight, Cohen turned on an inside fastball and from the left-handed batters box ripped into it, sending it off the scoreboard over the right field hedges and trimming the deficit to 6-5.

Key Moments: Drew kept the momentum going on both ends after Feltre's leadoff jack. With Fitzpatrick's fastball sitting in the mid-80s, E-Town was having trouble stringing runs together. On offense, freshman shortstop
Zach Lipshitz ripped a hustle double to the wall in right-centerfield, scoring one, and giving Drew a 2-1 lead in the second.
Â
Lipshitz and Feltre provided Drew's offense in the two-run fourth inning. Lipshitz drove in a run on a sacrifice fly to center and Feltre recorded his second RBI of the day with a single to score junior center fielder
Richie Poland for the 4-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth.
Â
