Women's Lacrosse Ends 2016 in Landmark Semifinals

WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 4, 2016) – The Drew University women's lacrosse season came to an end in the Landmark Conference semifinals on Wednesday at top-seeded The Catholic University of America.

The Cardinals (10-7) defeated the Rangers (7-11), who were making their eighth appearance in the Landmark Championships in the last nine years, by a score of 18-4 to advance to their ninth consecutive Landmark Conference championship game.

Top Performers: Junior midfielder Morgan Mason scored three goals for her first career playoff hat trick and the 11th of the 2016 season. Following Catholic opening the semifinal with six straight goals, Mason got Drew on the board 10 minutes in. She then scored Drew's second goal of the opening half with five minutes to play and opened the second half scoring with an unassisted blast at the 26:54 mark.

Landmark Leader: Sophomore midfielder Juliana Strazulo recorded game-highs with seven ground balls and six caused turnovers. That exemplary playoff performance was the culmination of season-long dominance in the midfield for Strazulo, who will own both Drew and Landmark Conference records for caused turnovers in a season and the Landmark record for ground balls in a season.

The new ground ball record is set at 89, while the new caused turnover standard is now 73.

Other Highlights:  Sophomore midfielder Maddie Spiess added a free position goal with 1:31 to play in the game for her 48th goal of the season, freshman goalkeeper Miranda Czymek made 10 saves and sophomore midfielder Nicole Kinney came up with three ground balls and a draw control.

Key Statistics: The Cardinals converted 5-of-6 free position shots compared to Drew's 1-of-6 mark. Catholic won 16 of the 22 draw controls and held an advantage in ground balls, 31-23.
