Rangers Break Out in 3rd to Soar Past Eagles, 66-51

HUNTINGDON, Pa. (Jan. 14, 2017) – Down 32-31 at half, the Drew University women's basketball team outscored Juniata College, 20-6, in the third period en route to a 66-51 victory on the road in a Landmark Conference contest on Saturday afternoon.
 
By the Numbers: The Rangers move into fourth place in the Landmark with a 2-2 record, with a 6-8 overall mark. Drew improves to 2-3 away from Madison, while the Eagles drop to 9-6 overall and 1-3 in conference. Juniata loses at home for the third time in eight tries.
 
Top Performers
Senior guard Hannah Miller continues to stake her claim as one of the top scorers in the Landmark Conference, scoring a game-high 18 points on the strength of a 9-of-11 performance from the free throw line.
• Senior forward Sam Lane shot 50 percent from the field (6-of-12) and scored 16 points with five rebounds.
• Junior guard Michaela Keegan added 12 points on efficient 6-of-8 shooting to go with four rebounds, four steals and two assists.
 
Turning Point: Despite Drew scoring its highest first period point total of the season, Juniata stormed back to take a one-point lead at halftime. The Rangers started the third period on a 12-2 run sparked by Keegan and Miller on the offensive end, leading to a 13-point lead heading into the final quarter.
 
Highlights
• A pair of three-point plays by Miller and senior forward Ryan Jackson bookended a 10-0 run to give Drew a 14-7 lead with 3:47 to play in the first.
• The lead was stretched to 22-10 with a minute to play in the opening period, highlighted by three-point field goals from Miller and senior guard Courtney Trzasko.
• Juniata chipped away at the lead in the second before ending the half on an 8-0 run, including a three-point play at the buzzer.
• Keegan found Trzasko open for a buzzer-beating three-pointer at the end of the third period for Drew's 51-38 advantage.

• Drew's 41 percent shooting bested Juniata's 36 percent.
• The Rangers notched double-digits in steals (11) for the seventh time this season. Drew, meanwhile, scored 25 points off 23 Juniata turnovers.
• The Blue & Green dominated the paint on Saturday, outrebounding the Eagles 36-33 and winning points in the paint 34-10. Relying on the long-range jump shot, Juniata hit just 6-of-22 from beyond the arc.
