Rangers Fall at Goucher In Season Finale

TOWSON, Md. – The Drew University field hockey team concluded its 2016 season at Goucher on Saturday afternoon.  The Gophers (5-10, 2-5 Landmark) led 2-0 at halftime before adding three more goals in the second half to notch a 5-0 triumph over the Rangers (0-15, 0-7 Landmark) at Beldon Field.

Goucher opened the scoring when Olivia Dickert converted a penalty corner in the 16th minute, then Jackie Juarez made it 2-0 in the 29th minute.  Dickert scored again in the 44th minute, and the Gophers also got second-half tallies from Valerie Mendoza and Sarah Shklanko.

Drew managed five second-half shots, but was unable to get one by Goucher goalkeeper Liz Zengel.  Zengel (4-4) finished with two saves.  Ryann Callaghan (Fountain Valley, Calif.) (0-13) recorded nine saves for the Rangers before being relieved by Joie Slossar (Woodbury, Conn.), who stopped one Goucher shot.

Saturday's contest marked the final game in the careers of seniors Madi Sheetz (Macungie, Pa.) and Michele Pozyc (Clark, N.J.).  Sheetz led the Rangers in scoring this season, while Pozyc graduates as the program's all-time leader with 51 career defensive saves.
