MADISON, N.J. (March 3, 2017) – As the temperatures dropped and snow fell on Ranger Stadium, the Drew University women's lacrosse offense heated up at the perfect time for a 15-13 victory over Vassar College on Friday evening.
By the Numbers
The Rangers win their second straight to improve to 2-1 overall and 2-0 on home turf. The Brewers open their 2017 season with a loss.
Top Performers
• Senior attacker
Theresa Shafron produced a career-high seven points to lead the Rangers. Her five goals against Vassar are also a career-high mark to go along with two assists. Shafron leads Drew with 11 points and eight goals through three games.
• Senior midfielder
Morgan Mason added a four-pack of goals and an assist. She also handled the majority of Drew's draws and came up with a team-high five controls.
• Junior midfielder
Nicole Kinney was the third Ranger with a hat trick, netting three goals to up her season total to seven.
• Senior goalkeeper
Gianna Minogue made 16 saves in net – two short of a career high – caused a turnover and picked up five groundballs in the victory.
Turning Point
Vassar scored three consecutive goals to pull within two, 13-11, midway through the second half. Shafron was responsible for the next two Ranger tallies to put some cushion on the lead, assisting on a Mason goal with 10:42 left, then finishing a pass from junior attacker
Sage Johnson for the 15-11 lead with 7:24 remaining.
Highlights
• After Vassar took an early 2-0 lead, Drew answered with five on tallies from Kinney (2), Shafron (2) and Mason.
• Freshman midfielder
Allie DiDario blasted home her second goal of the season on a free position attempt with 11:33 to play in the first, followed by an unassisted Kinney blast to hand Drew the 7-3 advantage.
• Vassar closed the half on a 4-1 run to trail 8-7 heading into the intermission.
• Snow began to fall just before halftime, then the Rangers came out firing in the second on a 5-1 scoring run on goals from Mason (2), Shafron (2) and Johnson. The spurt gave Drew a 13-8 lead with 21:00 to go.

• Shots were fairly even on Friday, 37-36 in favor of Vassar, while the Brewers also held an advantage in shots on goal, 29-24.
• The Rangers were successful on the clear in the second half, producing a 9-of-10 mark.
• Drew won the groundball battle, 21-16, but conceded draw controls, 16-12.
• Five of Vassar's goal came on free position shots in 12 total tries, compared to Drew's 3-of-9 percentage from the top of the arch.
