MADISON, N.J. (April 23, 2017) – The three members of the Drew University Softball Class of 2017 had their hands in a Landmark Conference doubleheader split with The University of Scranton on Sunday, highlighted by an extra-inning, walk-off double by senior shortstop
Meghan McGuire in the 3-2 Game 2 victory.
Â
By the Numbers: Scranton (16-13, 3-7) won the first game 13-2 in five innings before the Rangers bounced back for the walk-off win in Game 2 in the eighth inning, adjusting their record to 8-20 overall and 3-7 in league play.

Top Performers
• McGuire managed a hit in both ends of the twin bill, none bigger than the game-winning double to left center with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning of Game 2. With a 2-for-6 day at the plate on Sunday, the senior has six games remaining to get two hits and reach the 100 career hit milestone.
• Senior
Emma Agostini was 2-for-4 in Game 2, including the leadoff hit in the fateful eighth. Her single set the stage for McGuire's game-winner, which plated Agostini as the walk-off run.
• Senior center fielder
Phylicia Pellot picked up a hit in Game 1 and crossed the plate three times throughout the doubleheader to go with two walks and a stolen base.
• Sophomore pitcher
Bethany Budner went the distance in Game 2, working overtime and allowing nine hits and zero walks over eight innings. She allowed two runs while striking out one.
Â
The Difference: After Budner sat the Royals down in order in the top of the eighth, Agostini singled up the middle to begin the home half of the frame. Junior third baseman
Lauren Mastropierro sacrificed Agostini into scoring position with a well-placed bunt before McGuire ripped her game-winner into the gap.
Â
Game 1 Highlights
• Junior catcher
Heather Ronchi bat 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs, driving in Drew's only runs in separate at-bats in the third and fifth innings.
Â
Game 2 Highlights
• Budner worked around a hit per inning through three frames before working a 1-2-3 fourth.
• Drew took a 2-0 lead in the fifth, when sophomore first baseman
Cara O'Leary singled through the left side to lead off the inning. Junior left fielder
Brooke Adams singled on a bunt, and as the throw got away from first in an attempt to retire Adams, O'Leary scored the first run of the game. Sophomore right fielder
Katie Grodski made it 2-0 with a sacrifice fly two at-bats later.
• Scranton scored a run in each the sixth and seventh to force extra innings.
Â
Up Next: The Rangers wrap up the 2017 season on the road this week, beginning with a non-conference doubleheader at Rutgers-Newark on Wednesday, April 26 at 3 p.m.
