HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Drew University women's swimming team won six events, but lost by a 114-91 count in its season opener at Stevens Institute of Technology Thursday evening.

The Rangers won six events on the evening, with junior Mal Vishwanath leading the way. An honorable mention All-American a year ago, Vishwanath picked up where she left off, capturing the 200-freestyle (1:01.18) and the 500-freestyle (5:17.90). In addition, she swam on the winning 200-medley relay along with junior Stephanie Cushman and freshman Sydney Everhart and Mackenzie Garcia Hynds.

Garcia Hynds enjoyed an impressive collegiate debut for the Blue and Green. She also won the 50-freestyle (25.76) while earning runner-up honors in the 100-freestyle (55.38).

Everhart contributed a victory in the 100-butterfly (1:01.18) while Cushman prevailed in the 100-backstroke (1:01.84). Junior Katie Jefferson added a second-place finish behind Vishwanath in the 200-freestyle (2:05.27) to complete a 1-2 Drew finish.

The Rangers continue their season on Oct. 20, when they host Montclair State University in a dual meet.
