Drew Concludes Season With Loss at Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – In its final game of the 2017-18 season, the Drew University women's basketball team (12-13, 4-10 Landmark) suffered an 83-55 defeat against host Juniata (21-4, 10-4 Landmark) at Memorial Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.  The loss snapped the Rangers' three-game winning streak against the Eagles.

Juniata scored the first 14 points of the game, and the Rangers' only points of the first quarter came on a Haley Scheuer (Lincroft, N.J.) trey with 53 seconds left in the period.  Drew pulled within 11 points, 19-8, on Hailey Stine's (Annandale, N.J.) layup at the 8:24 mark of the second quarter, but the Eagles responded with a 14-5 spurt to increase their cushion to 20 points, 33-13.  The margin was 18 points, 33-15, at halftime.

After Juniata built a 24-point, 45-21, advantage midway through the third quarter, Julia Ramos (Hazlet, N.J.) rattled off five straight points to get the Rangers within 45-26.  The Eagles led 61-36 after three quarters, then opened up their largest cushion of the game, 81-41, with 4:08 left.  Drew closed out the contest by scoring 14 of the final 16 points, with a Stine trey at the 1:22 mark making the final margin 28 points, 83-55.

Ramos tallied 19 points to lead the Rangers, and she also collected five steals.  Stine contributed eight points, while Michaela Keegan (Mendham, N.J.) had 11 points, three assists and four steals in her final collegiate contest.  Erin Frederick (Staten Island, N.Y.), meanwhile, finished with seven points and a team-high four boards.  Drew shot 31.7 percent (20-of-63) from the field, 31.6 percent (6-of-19) from long range, and 75 percent (9-of-12) at the charity stripe.

For the Eagles, Dani Atkinson and Morgan Instone led the way with 19 points apiece.  Atkinson also had five steals, while Instone added six rebounds.  Rachael Anstine grabbed 14 rebounds and Bethany Spencer corralled 10 boards, as Juniata held a 56-32 edge on the glass.  The Eagles shot 45.7 percent (32-of-70) from the floor, including 40 percent (8-of-20) from three-point land.  Juniata went 11-for-18 (61.1 percent) at the free throw line.

The Rangers' 12 victories this season were their most since the 2014-15 campaign, and this marked the only time all year that Drew's record dipped below .500.
