Drew Drops Non-Conference Affair at Keystone

LA PLUME, Pa. – On Thursday, the Drew University baseball team traveled to Keystone for a non-conference matchup. The Rangers (11-5) saw their two-game winning streak come to an end, however, as the Giants (12-5) earned a 9-1 victory at Christy Mathewson Field.

Keystone took the lead on Dakota McFadden's two-run homer in the bottom of the first, then added five more in the second. The Giants eventually opened up a 9-0 lead before Drew got on the board in the top of the ninth. After singles by Ryan Sabbag (Miami, Fla.), Brian Dagostino (Southbury, Conn.) and Jayson Mitch (Easton, Pa.), Zach Lipshitz (Scotch Plains, N.J.) drew a bases loaded walk to knock in the Rangers' only run of the contest.

Lipshitz and Max Felsenstein (Glen Rock, N.J.) each had a pair of hits in the contest, as Drew recorded eight hits as a team. Paul Roth (Bethlehem, Pa.) (2-3) got the start on the mound and took the loss. He surrendered six runs (three earned) on seven hits in 1.1 innings. Pete Violante (Easton, Pa.) tossed 3.2 innings of relief, yielding two runs (one earned) on three hits with two strikeouts and a walk. Davis Fouts (Coral Springs, Fla.), Joe Dahut (Kensington, Md.) and Tim Jinks (Brick, N.J.) followed with an inning each.

For the Giants, Mohammed Hussein finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored, while Bray Curreri was 3-for-3 with two doubles and a home run. He scored a run and drove in two. Adam Kelly also had a pair of hits for Keystone.

In addition to belting a two-run homer, McFadden (4-1) earned the win after holding Drew to four hits over seven shutout innings. He struck out four and walked four. Blake DeMeter gave up a hit and picked up a strikeout in the eighth, while Joe DeAngelis allowed a run and three hits with a walk and a strikeout over one inning of work.

The Rangers will have Easter weekend off before returning to action with a 4 p.m. tilt at St. Joseph's Brooklyn (0-14) on Tuesday.
