Rangers Top King’s For Second Straight Victory

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Drew University women's lacrosse team (3-2) earned its second straight win on Wednesday afternoon, topping King's (2-3) by a 14-10 count at Guilford College's Armfield Athletic Center.  The neutral-site contest was the finale of the Rangers' four-game road trip.

After Drew scored the first goal of the game, King's rattled off three straight to take a 3-1 lead.  However, the Rangers got unassisted tallies from Sage Johnson (Timonium, Md.) and Lauren Cassella (Edison, N.J.) to even the score with 19:05 left in the first half.  The Monarchs went back in front, 6-4, but Mia Campanale (Branchburg, N.J.) and Johnson found the back of the net just before halftime to make it a 6-6 game at intermission.

It was still knotted, 8-8, midway through the second half when a free position goal by Allie DiDario (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) started a 5-1 Drew spurt that put the Rangers in front 13-9.  King's got a free position goal from Emma Lehman at the 3:00 mark before Campanale connected off an assist from Cassella 37 seconds later to close out the scoring in a 14-10 Drew victory.

Cassella had eight points for the Rangers, finishing with six goals and two assists.  Johnson tallied three goals, six draw controls and four ground balls, and Campanale added three goals of her own.  DiDario, meanwhile, collected five points on two goals and three assists to go along with seven draw controls, four ground balls and three caused turnovers.  In addition to picking up four ground balls, goalkeeper Katiana Michalski (Eastchester, N.Y.) (3-2) stopped six King's shots.

For King's, Anastasia Araviakis led the way with five goals and seven draw controls.  Amanda Carroll scored three times, while Caitlin Butchko recorded a goal and an assist.  Goalkeeper Orla Cottell (2-3) picked up a team-best four ground balls and made seven saves.

On Saturday, the Rangers return home for a 12 p.m. matchup with Old Westbury (0-2).  It will be the opener of a Drew lacrosse doubleheader, as the men's team takes on Montclair State at 3 p.m.
