Drew Topped By No. 15 Catholic In Landmark Semifinals

WASHINGTON – On Wednesday afternoon, the Drew University women's lacrosse team took on No. 15 Catholic in the semifinals of the Landmark Conference Tournament.  Looking to advance to the Landmark Championship Game for the first time since 2011, the fourth-seeded Rangers (10-7) dropped a 20-6 decision to the top-seeded Cardinals (12-6) at Cardinal Stadium.

After the Cardinals jumped out to a 6-0 lead, Allie DiDario (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) got the Rangers on the board with 21:36 left in the first half.  Lauren Cassella (Edison, N.J.) cut Drew's deficit to 7-2 at the 18:01 mark, but Catholic ended the half on a 7-1 spurt to take a 14-3 cushion into the halftime break.  The Cardinals then outscored Drew 6-3 in the second half to secure a 20-6 victory and move into their 11th consecutive Landmark Championship Game, where they will face Scranton for the third straight season.

DiDario scored four goals to go along with four ground balls, four caused turnovers and five draw controls.  Cassella found the back of the net twice and added three draw controls, while Damaris Zola (Oakland, N.J.) picked up three ground balls.  In addition to corralling a team-best four ground balls, Katiana Michalski (Eastchester, N.Y.) (10-7) tallied 14 saves.

Nicolette Crisalli tallied six goals for the Cardinals, while Holly Regan had nine points on three goals and six assists.  Erin Dugan posted game-highs with six ground balls and nine draw controls, and Emily Bynoe controlled seven draws for Catholic.  Nanci Hernandez (11-6) played the first half in goal and earned the win.  She made two saves before being relieved by Christina DeCesaris, who also stopped a pair of Drew shots.

This marked Drew's third successive Landmark Tournament appearance.  The Rangers fell at Catholic in the semifinals each time.
