Moravian Tops Women’s Hoops

MADISON, N.J. – Sophomore guard Julia Ramos scored 20 of her 23 points in the fourth quarter to help the Rangers put up a late rally, but Moravian College handed the Drew University women's basketball team a 75-62 setback in Landmark Conference play Wednesday evening in Baldwin Gym. The two sides entered the night in a three-way tie for fourth place in the Landmark Conference standings, and the Rangers (11-8, 4-5 LC) are now tied for fifth.

How it Happened: Drew trailed just 11-9 at the end of the first quarter before Moravian (13-7, 5-4 LC) took control over the middle two quarters, when it outscored the Rangers 43-26. The Greyhounds hit a 3-pointer early in the final period to go up 22, but that's when Ramos caught fire. After sitting out much of the game due to foul trouble, she scored 10 points during a 15-3 run in just over two minutes of play. She capped the spurt with a conventional 3-point play that made it 60-48 with 6:49 to go, and sophomore forward Erin Frederick dropped in a lay-up with 5:25 left to make it a 10-point game. But Moravian nudged its lead back to 13 and the Rangers were unable to get closer than 10 down the stretch. Ramos scored her team's final 10 points.

Top Performers: Ramos finished with her third 20-point game of the season despite playing just 22 minutes. She finished 6-for-13 from the field, including 3-for-6 from beyond the arc, and went 8-for-8 at the foul line. Frederick totaled 14 points while shooting a perfect 7-for-7 from the field, and junior guard Aly Axman scored a season-high nine points. Senior forward Sarah Henig came up with three steals. Maddie Capuano and Karlie Brogan led Moravian with 20 points apiece.

Stat Sheet: The Rangers forced Moravian into 17 turnovers, which converted into 19 points. Drew shot 39.7 percent for the game while Moravian finished at 48.8 percent, and the Greyhounds held a 35-26 rebounding advantage. Moravian scored 28 points of its points at the foul line, where it shot 80.0 percent.

Next Up: Drew plays its next two games on the road, starting with a Landmark Conference tilt at Goucher College on Saturday starting at 2 p.m.
