WILKES-BARRE, Pa. and MAHWAH, N.J. - The Drew University men's tennis team closed out its fall schedule with a pair of close victories at King's College on Saturday to finish the season 4-0. In addition, a small handful of Rangers also turned in strong individual performances at the Ramapo Invitational.
At King's, the Rangers opened the day with a thrilling 5-4 victory over Cabrini University. Drew won two of three doubles matches to open up a 2-1 lead. Freshman
Lorenzo Fuga and junior
Bryce Kennedy combined for a tiebreaker victory at No. 2, winning 8-7 (7-3) while senior
Karel Raska and freshman
Sam Seaver posted an 8-0 sweep at No. 3.
Drew clinched the victory by splitting the three singles matches. Senior
Geoffrey Diehl won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 while Fuga posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 2. Sophomore
Brett Philip rallied for 5-7, 6-1, 10-6 win at No. 3.
Versus King's jumped to a 2-1 lead after winning at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles. Kennedy and Raska won 8-2 at No. 2 doubles.
The Rangers came back to win the match by winning the bottom four singles matches, getting victories from Raska at No. 3 (6-1, 6-0), freshman
John Dickey at No. 4 (6-3, 6-3), Seaver at No. 5 (7-5, 6-1), and freshman
Ryan Money at No. 6 (6-0, 6-1).Â
At Ramapo, sophomore
Billy MacDonald and senior
Bryce Weizer turned in the team's top performances, with each finishing 3-0 in the C bracket. Freshman
Leo Ambrogio finished 1-1 in the C bracket while sophomores
Dan Blumenthal and
Jeremy Gottlieb each went 1-2 in the B bracket.
Drew continues its season on Feb. 16, when it hosts FDU-Florham.
