MADISON, N.J. - Junior
Joie Slossar tied a career-high with 14 saves, but the Drew University field hockey team lost by a final of 7-0 to Catholic University in Landmark Conference (LC) action Saturday afternoon at Ranger Stadium.
Making her third start of the season, Slossar registered the most saves by a Ranger since
Ryann Callaghan C'19 turned aside 18 shots versus Catholic on Sept. 29 of last season. Slossar also registered 14 stops against DeSales University on Oct. 3, 2017.
The Cardinals (5-6, 2-0 LC) scored just two minutes into the game, then struck again late in the quarter to build a 2-0 lead at the end of opening period.
Catholic attempted 10 shots in the first quarter but were stymied by the Ranger defense in the second stanza, when the hosts did not allow a single shot, and it remained a two-goal game at the intermission.
The Cardinals came back with a 12-shot third quarter, but that's when Slossar made nine of her saves. But the visitors added a pair of goals to push their advantage four, then tacked on three additional tallies in the final period.
Senior
Sami Strathern led the Rangers with four shots, including three that were on goal. Defensively, junior
Camryn Koch and sophomore
Carly Schiller were each credited with a defensive save. Drew finished with a 7-5 advantage in penalty corners.
The Rangers (2-10, 0-2 LC) continue their season on Wednesday, when they visit Ramapo College in a non-conference tilt starting at 4:30 p.m.
