SCRANTON, Pa. – Scranton jumped out to a big first-half lead and the 12th-ranked Royals handed the Drew University women's basketball team a 66-43 setback in Landmark Conference (LC) action Wednesday evening. Sophomore guard
Julia Ramos scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Rangers (13-10, 6-7 LC).
How it Happened: The Royals (22-2, 11-2 LC) jumped to a 12-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and carried a 30-13 lead into halftime intermission. The Rangers twice pulled to within 12 in the second half – first on a 3-pointer from senior guard
Hailey Stine with 25 seconds left in the third quarter, then on a triple from Ramos with 8:00 left. However, Drew was unable to draw any closer and Scranton closed the game on a 10-2 run.
Top Performers: Ramos shot 4-for-6 from 3-point range while adding four assists. Sophomore forward
Erin Frederick contributed 11 points and eight rebounds for the Rangers while freshman guard
Brooke Timinski, making her second start of the year, grabbed a season-high eight rebounds. Sophia Recupero and Emily Sheehan led Scranton with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Stat Sheet: The Royals shot 44.6 percent for the game while holding the Rangers to a 31.4 percent mark. Drew finished with a 36-35 rebounding edge.
Up Next: The Rangers conclude the regular season on Saturday, when they host Catholic University at 2 p.m. on Senior Day. Drew will enter the day in sixth place in the Landmark Conference standings, trailing Catholic and Juniata College by one game for the fourth and final playoff spot.
