MADISON, N.J. – Sophomore guard
Julia Ramos pumped in a game-high 28 points, but the Drew University women's basketball team saw its season come to a close with an 80-67 loss to Stevenson University in the first round of the ECAC Division III Championship Wednesday evening in Baldwin Gym. The Rangers, who were making their first postseason appearance since playing in the 2014 ECAC Metro Region Championship, close out the season with a 13-12 record.
How it Happened: It was a close game early on, as the Mustangs (14-12) led just 18-12 at the end of the first quarter and 33-32 at halftime. But Stevenson outscored the Rangers 23-17 in the third quarter to open up a seven-point lead, then used an 8-0 run midway through the final period to break the game open.
Top Performers: Ramos, who was named First Team All-Landmark Conference earlier in the day, shot 10-for-18, including 4-for-5 from 3-point territory. She also posted six steals and four assists. Sophomore forward
Erin Frederick added 16 points while senior guard
Hailey Stine tossed in 13 points in her final game as a Ranger. Junior guard
Aly Axman contributed eight rebounds. Olivia Coleman paced the Mustangs with 25 points and 13 rebounds.
Stat Sheet: The Rangers shot 43.6 percent for the night, including 50.0 percent from beyond the arc, tying their second-best 3-point shooting effort of the season. Stevenson finished with a 37-26 rebounding advantage and shot 51.6% for the night.
Notes: Drew finished with its first winning record since the 2009-10 campaign…the future is bright for the Rangers, who stand to return 11 of their 13 players next season.
