MADISON, N.J. - The softball team lost both ends of a doubleheader to Middlelbury College in its home opener on Sunday at a sunny and chilly Drew University Softball Complex. The Panthers won the opener 8-2 before claiming an 11-0, five-inning decision in the nightcap.
Highlights
• In the first game, the Panthers (4-0) went ahead 8-0 before freshman
Madi Precht singled, stole a base, and scored on an error.
• The Rangers (4-10) scored again in the seventh when Precht led off with a double before scoring on a single from classmate
MaKayla Sosa.
• Three different pitchers took the circle for Drew, including senior starter
Cara O'Leary (3-1), who worked four innings. Freshman
Skyler Colarusso blanked Middlebury on one hit over the last two innings.
• Precht finished 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored in the opener while sophomore
Sophie Sirota was also 2-for-3.
• In the second game, Middlebury jumped on top 6-0 with three runs apiece in the first and third innings. After scoring once in the fourth, the Panthers added four in the fifth to bring the eight-run rule into effect.
• Drew had its best scoring opportunity in the third, when it loaded the bases with two outs, but was unable to capitalize.

Stephanie Burns threw all five innings for the Rangers, striking out two.Â

Drew picks up its schedule on Wednesday, when it visits Lehman College at 3 p.m. in a non-conference doubleheader.
