MADISON, N.J. – The Rangers outscored Elizabethtown 6-0 over the final 18 minutes en route to a 15-11 victory in Landmark Conference women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon in Ranger Stadium. Freshman
Hailey Simmons led Drew with a season-high five goals, including three during the team's decisive run.
Highlights
• Elizabethtown (5-9, 2-3 LC) scored the game's first two goals over the opening seven minutes, and the Blue Jays led 5-2 after Lexie Sharp scored her third goal of the game with 13:48 left in the opening half.
• The Rangers (13-2, 3-2 LC) used a 3-1 run to pull within 6-5 with just under 10 minutes left.
• Simmons evened the score at 7-7 with 7:51 on the first-half clock, and she struck again with 2:02 showing to make it a 9-9 game at the break.
• Kate Ziegler scored her third and fourth goals of the afternoon to put E-town in front 11-9 with 25:06 to go. But the Rangers would dig in defensively and shut out the visitors the rest of the way.
• Seven minutes later, Drew took its first lead of the afternoon with a 3-0 spurt. Sophomore
Lauren Cassella scored before Simmons buried back-to-back tallies to put the Rangers up 12-11.
• Junior
Allie DiDario added a free-position goal with 9:15 remaining before junior
Jenna Morelli got into the scoring act at the 7:24 mark. Simmons set the final score with 5:49 left.
Top Performers
• In addition to her five goals, Simmons also picked up five ground balls and had a pair of caused turnovers.
• DiDario registered another strong all-around performance with two goals, two assists, nine draw controls, and six caused turnovers.
• Senior
Mia Campanale contributed two goals and one assist while Morelli scored twice.
• Freshman
Kendall Hartt raced down six draw controls.
• Sophomore
Kat Michalski registered nine saves.
Stat Sheet
The Rangers nearly doubled the Blue Jays on shots (43-22). Drew also held advantages in ground balls (19-16) and draw controls (19-9).
